Artists! Do you wanna be part of PRE-FAB?!
Do you want to be part of our upcoming exhibition Pre-Fab? And no, we are not talking about pre-fabricated houses!
Please see below for information from our artist brief for this exhibition!
Exhibition Dates: 23 November to 17 December 2011
Deadline for expressions of interest: Friday 17 September, 2011
The Town Hall Gallery invites artists to submit Expressions of Interest for a curated group exhibition under the theme Pre-Fab.
Pre-fab highlights creative processes that re-purpose manufactured and mass-produced objects into works of contemporary art. Artists have for a long time been seduced by the shiny, plastic and metal materials that are often associated with industrial factories and are now claiming these materials as their own. Works involving these ordinary and everyday materials build a language that sits between the art world and that of the manufacturing one.
Artists are now finding that they may not purchase their materials from the traditional arts supply but rather are collaborating with welders and plastic manufacturers to realize their ideas.
We are looking for works that use pre-existing manufactured items in new and innovative ways and works that utilize manufacturing and design for their construction.
Expression of Interest Details:
Approximately ten visual artists will be selected for the exhibition. Artists submitting an Expression of Interest may be emerging or established. Works will be selected that:
• Clearly interpret the theme.
• Are inclusive of any medium.
• Are innovative, engaging and deemed to be of artistic merit.
• Works that are resolved and finished.
Expression of Interest must include the following:
• Artist’s full CV with name and contact details,
• artist statement reflecting the theme (approx. 500-800 words)
• 5 jpeg images of the work/s to be considered or if artist opts to create new works, 5 images from the artist’s folio with 1-2 images of previously existing works.
Works can be made available for sale during the exhibition as well, however the gallery does take a 20% commission on sales.
