Getting Felty this week at Town Hall Gallery!

Pam Czarny, Poppies (detail), wet felted wool and silk.

Town Hall Gallery is very pleased to host FELTernative, featuring works by the Victorian Feltmakers Inc.

FELTernative aims to change people's perceptions of contemporary felt, as well as raise public awareness of it as an artistic medium.

Felt making in Australia has undergone an enormous surge in popularity over the past fifteen years. There is an increasing number of practising feltmakers committed to exploring and celebrating the never-ending potential of traditional handmade felt. As a modern art and craft medium, felt can be functional, wearable as well as used to produce fine art.

Viewers will see a diverse range of felt products from two-dimensional artworks, jewelry, clothing and sculptural works.  With approximately 35 artists involved in the exhibition and just under 70 works on display, FELTernative will definitely highlight what felt can do!

The exhibition will be be officially launched by Martien van Zuilen, founder of the Victorian Feltmakers and practicing textile arts practitioner, specializing in hand made felt.

If you would like to find out more about the wonders of felt, join us for our In Conversation program where some of the exhibitors will discuss the felt making process. Saturday 13 August 2pm to 3pm. Free to attend!
