The Art of Engagement, in 3 Parts

2014 is off and running, with a swathe of new visitors finding their way into the gallery and the Emporium. On Saturday we had a wonderful set of artists talks and a very enthusiastic crowd of interested art patrons. A massive thanks to Jenny Peterson, Bronwyn Rees and Elizabeth Banfield for sharing their work with us and giving a generous insight into their ideas and working methods.

Part One
This coming Saturday, 8 February starting at 11am, we are excited to have Elizabeth Banfield return and deliver a linocut workshop - a rare and unique opportunity to learn directly from a truly exceptional artist. Materials will be supplied and it could hardly be a more perfect way to avoid the heat, get out of the house, and enjoy some creative activity in the air-conditioned comfort of the newly refurbished heritage building. More details available here.

Part Two
Also on Saturday, from 2-4pm, Robyn Emerson will be launching her exhibition, Languages of Phenomena, at the Quest Hawthorn Community Project Wall. For a sneak peak of what to expect, check out the preview video:

Part Three
On Thursday 20 February, from 6.30-8.00pm, Senior Curator Mardi Nowak is going to lead a panel discussion on public gallery collections. Providing an insider's insight into the way in which public bodies go about identifying art and artists to acquire into collections, this discussion will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about the process and understand the machinations of this activity. Highly valuable for both artists, holders of important works and dealers, it is a rare chance to get behind the scenes and gain valuable knowledge. Contact the gallery to secure your seat.
